From Lazy College Bum to Internet Entrepreneur

At this point, I would like to show you how I started my journey in the online world. It all started with me being a lazy college student. Most of my days looked similar during that period of my life.

I would wake up at 2 o’clock in the afternoon (of course skipping all the morning classes in my engineering school) and immediately grab the lunch that my aunt had cooked for me. Yes, free, cooked-for-you lunch is the best.

In a way, it was a wonderful time, but still, I was far from happy. Perhaps weirdly so.

I was completely and utterly depressed

Even though this time of my life was care free, the truth is I wasn’t satisfied at the end of the day. Deep down I was completely depressed and anxious about the life I was living. Feeling completely out of control of your life is a feeling I certainly don’t cherish.

I was missing my morning classes because pursuing my engineering studies was not fulfilling me. I was filling my days with meaningless fun because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Sleeping through my mornings was my comfortable norm.

It was all a distraction and I couldn’t enjoy myself. I knew there was something more I could do with my life, but I didn’t know what that was. The nagging feeling was there, but I never spent the time to truthfully confront it.

I wanted to be in control

What I was missing was control over my life. I was missing the complete freedom over how to live my life. I was dependent on the money of others, while on the surface I was living a life that was decided for me by others. Financial independence was far from my reach.

It is not that anyone had pressured me to follow a specific life path. It is just that the signals of the society around me had led me to follow the traditional college path. I was a very successful student in my entrance exams for University and that’s what put me into the trap of following the traditional ‘opportunity’ of college. But things weren’t going as smoothly as I initially thought.

Deep down I wanted to live life my way. I wanted to be financially independent by becoming an online entrepreneur. I would read about stories of internet entrepreneurs building online businesses that were financing their dreams and ideal lifestyles, and I longed for doing the same.

Tim Ferriss and the rest of the gang became the ‘authorities’ I was looking up to become. Only thing was, they weren’t really helping you actually achieve what they were preaching in their work. All those gurus made riches by selling to you the idea of doing what they do. Impractical, but inspiring. Still, I longed for more.

I wanted to travel the world and fulfill my dreams. I wanted to take risks, live adventurously, and live my life to the fullest. I wanted to decide how I would spend every day of my life, without having to conform to the demands of anyone. Like that, I also began my journey in the internet marketing world.

I thought it would be easy

Initially, I believed that it would be easy. It would all be about clicking some buttons and instantly making millions right? I’m sure many have this misconception. And it is a tricky one to get over.

The reality though hit me like a ton of bricks. There are some really important elements that someone needs in order to succeed in this industry.
